How Does CAD-imported Model Replacement Work ?

The headline feature of this update is now live: Collada model replacement.

Upon importing a project from a CAD platform — Cabinet Vision, SketchUp, Mozaik, ClosetPro, or others — you can now swap any model in that project (appliances, fridges, cabinets, etc.) with models from the VORTEK Spaces library. Previously, only VORTEK Spaces models were replaceable. Now, all models are included.

How to use it:

  1. Enable Expert Mode in VORTEK Spaces. This is done by going into the Settings > Advanced tab.
  2. Open your model list.
  3. Click the replacement mode button at the bottom right of the list — you’ll now be able to select all models from your imported CAD project, alongside your VORTEK Spaces models.
  4. Once a project model is clicked, select any model from the list to replace it.
  5. To restore the original, delete the replacement model — the original CAD version comes back automatically.

Collada element replacement is supported for all our officially supported file formats.

Note: Handle replacement is not included in this update.

Is the Project Browser Easier to Navigate?

Yes. The working directory list has been fully redesigned for clarity.

Working folders, projects, and designs are now visually distinct from one another. Projects are displayed in a way that clearly communicates that they contain multiple designs. If a project contains only one design, VORTEK Spaces now opens it automatically — saving you an extra click every time.

Additional improvements include:

  • A breadcrumb navigation trail so you always know where you are in your folder hierarchy.
  • A one-click button to create a working folder instantly if none is found — especially useful for new users setting up for the first time.

This redesign benefits all users, particularly designers managing multiple client projects across Cabinet Vision, SketchUp, ClosetPro, and other platforms.

What Interface Changes Should You Know About?

Several interface updates make daily use clearer and more reliable.

License & Account Management:

  • A popup now appears when your license is approaching expiration, with a direct shortcut to the renewal page — so you’re never caught off guard.
  • Account warning visuals (expired license, no internet connection) are more prominent and easier to read.
  • Trial version now have distinctive visuals and watermarks.
  • The invalid password error message now explicitly clarifies that your VORTEK Spaces password is separate from your website login — a frequent source of confusion.

Material & project Tools:

  • Material SKUs are now displayed directly below material names in the material list.
  • Expert Mode: Reflection probe dimensions (X, Y, Z) can now be adjusted using dedicated sliders.
  • Expert Mode: The performance menu and FPS counter are now automatically hidden in fullscreen for a cleaner presentation view.

Video Renders:

  • A new default VORTEK Spaces intro and outro video has been added.

What’s Improved in VR?

VR users will notice a sharper, more consistent experience in this update.

  • Improved Mirror rendering — mirrors in VR mode are now more reflective.
  • New settings under Settings > VR section give you additional control over VR performance and rendering quality.
  • Project brightness in VR now uses a higher default value — the manual brightness slider has been removed in favor of this new value.
  • The adjusted view is automatically disabled when VR is active, preventing the VR resolution to differ from the app’s view.

Performance & Stability Improvements

  • Viewpoint list loading is faster, reducing delay and lag when opening the viewpoint list.
  • During project loading, VORTEK Spaces now automatically removes duplicate lights placed at the same position — a common cause of rendering artifacts in complex projects.

Other Fixes & Improvements

This update resolves a number of issues reported by users:

  • Fixed multiple artifact issues in cutout models (faucets, fireplaces, windows).
  • Fixed an issue where some elements were not visible after importing ClosetPro projects.
  • Fixed an issue preventing support requests from being sent after a project failed to open.
  • Fixed a bug affecting the initial camera position in certain projects.
  • Fixed a bug preventing materials from being renamed.
  • Fixed a bug preventing the update notification banner from being dismissed.
  • Improved particle model selection (showers, sinks, steam) to exclude particle effects from the selection itself.
  • Other fixes: Various additional fixes across the interface, recording, buttons, lights, and Mozaik integration.

Note: .ogv material import is no longer supported.
